CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy women's lacrosse fell to the
University of Maine at Farmington on Tuesday afternoon, 13-5 in North
Atlantic Conference action on Ritchie Field.
The Mariners went on a 2-0 run to open up the game, led by back-to-back goals from Rachael Redles (Coopersburg, Pa.) but the Beavers scored four in a row to take a 4-2 lead. Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.) found Redles open in front of the net for her third of the day, and Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) grabbed a goal at 10:20 to tie things up at 4-4.
UMF scored nine-straight to enter the final two minutes of the game with a 13-4 lead. Sierra James
(Campton, N.H.) added a free position shot with four seconds remaining to cut the final deficit to 13-5.
Hannah Fleming
(Winter Harbor, Maine) led the Mariners with four ground balls, while
causing three turnovers and James tallied seven saves in net in just
over 43 minutes, while Wilson tallied four saves in the final 16:44 of
the game.
Carly Raymond led UMF with four goals and two assists, while
teammates Sierra Gilley and Jaclyn Langevin each added hat tricks.
Raymond also led the Beavers with seven ground balls, and Alyssa
Arsenault and Danielle Conway split time in net, combining for four
saves.
The Mariners fall to 0-13 on the season and 0-6 in the NAC, while the
Beavers improve to 4-6 overall and 2-4 in the conference. Maine
Maritime returns to action on Saturday against New England College at
1:00 p.m., for Senior Day.
