McAvoy Leads the Sea Dogs to 4-2 Win

Portland, Maine- Kevin McAvoy served as the stopper and paced the Sea Dogs (5-8) to a 4-1 win over the Trenton Thunder (7-5) in game two of their series Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.

McAvoy (W, 3-0) has now won all three of his starts in Double-A, picking up his first quality start in tonight's performance. McAvoy allowed one earned run on just four hits in six innings, walking two and striking out five. Mitch Atkins worked two perfect innings of relief and struck out three, while Chandler Shepherd picked up his first career Double-A save.

Portland's offense cranked out 11 hits. Jake Romanski finished 3-for-4, Cole Sturgeon went 2-for-4 with a triple, RBI, and stolen base, and Derek Miller went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.

The win for Portland ends their four-game losing streak. Kevin McAvoy has been the winning pitcher in both games the Sea Dogs have won on the homestand.

The rubber match of the series takes place Wednesday afternoon at Hadlock Field, first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 noon. RHP Teddy Stankiewicz is scheduled to start for the Sea Dogs against LHP Daniel Camarena for Trenton.
