Hawks record 13-9 win over Nor'easters

BRISTOL, R.I. -- Roger Williams University out-scored the University of New England by a 9-2 margin over latter part of the 2nd period and initial stages of the 3rd on the way to a 13-9 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's lacrosse victory on Saturday afternoon (Apr. 2) at Bayside Field.

After the Hawks (7-3, 3-0 CCC) led 2-0 through 15 minutes, the Nor'easters (6-5, 1-1 CCC) tied things up at 3-all with just under 10 minutes left in the 2nd.

However Roger Williams netted four of the last five goals in the frame to gain a 7-4 edge at halftime, while getting out-shot 27-21. Connor Carroll of RWU had nine of his 13 saves before intermission to help establish the cushion.

It took the hosts 7:31 of the 3rd to built the advantage up to 12-5, behind markers from five different
players. UNE reduced the deficit to four with a little more than eight minutes remaining, but could not close the gap any further.

Will Siefert paced the Hawks with three goals, and Nick Gagnon added two scores along with four assists. Eddie Hill also netted a pair, and John Lisitano went for one goal and three assists. Dan Arket, who picked up a game-high 10 ground balls, had control of the face-off department to capture 16-of-20 restarts.

For the Nor'easters, Dan Auger had three goals, an assist, and seven ground balls. Four others registered multiple points on the day, including a goal: Andrew Curro, Philip Young, Remy Watt, and Mitch Mullin. Chris Harlow scooped up a team-high nine ground balls with two caused turnovers.

In goal for UNE, John Dusel and David Pearson split the action and combined for 11 saves.

The result extended RWU's win streak to six games while halting the Nor'easters' at four in-a-row.

UNE returns home to face Gordon College on Wednesday (4 p.m.).
