Colby Men’s lacrosse sets goal record for a game in win over MMA

CASTINE, Maine — On a day when 15 players scored at least one goal, the Colby College men’s lacrosse team set a school record for goals in a game in a 27-3 victory at Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday.
 
The Mules improve to 3-7 overall heading into Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. game at seventh-ranked Amherst College. Maine Maritime drops to 2-6 overall.
 
The old scoring record for a game was 24 goals set twice in 1986 against Southern Maine and New Hampshire College.
 
Kevin Seiler led Colby with four goals, while William Erwin and Harrison Alpaugh both had three goals and one assist. Thomas Brewster also had three goals, Tucker Dietrick added two goals and one assist, and Myles Smith and teammate Andrew Ward both had two goals. Scott Miller and John Pappas each had one goal and two assists.
 
The Mules, who led 13-1 at halftime, also received one goal and one assist from Kevin Beil and Alex Rutan. Single goals went to Colton Michel, Yuta Murata, Sam Wasserman, and Sean Dougherty.
The Mules scored two goals in the opening 1:44 of play, but did not score the third goal until there was 7:37 left in the first quarter. The Mariners cut the margin to 3-1 with 4:44 to play. Colby ran off four straight goals in the final 3:12 of the quarter and then had a 6-0 scoring margin in the second quarter.
 
Kenny Jacobson finished with five ground balls and two caused turnovers for Colby. Josh Reed added two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Smith and Miller both had five ground balls. Max Eberhart was 18-for-21 on face-offs and scooped 11 ground balls.
 
Dylan Rothenberg, C.J. Lynch, and Justin Waligory all saw time in net for the Mules. The three goalies combined for three saves.
