Beavers Take Fifth in Opening Weekend

Willimantic, CT - University of Maine at Farmington's Women's track and field team opened their season up at Eastern Connecticut College.

The Beavers were led by Laura Pulito and teammates Haley Frizzle and Olivia Ridley. Pulito qualified for the New England's in the 800-meter run crossing the finish line at 2:20.69. Haley Frizzle placed 3rd in the shot put followed by Jessica Brink who placed 6th. Olivia Ridley won the 5k and punched her ticket to New England's early as well with a time of 18:37.10.

The Beavers have a packed weekend next weekend as they head to Regis Friday and Bowdoin College Saturday

Five Bates College women's track athletes receive All-NESCAC honors

HADLEY, Mass. -- Five members of the Bates women's track and field team officially received a total of nine All-NESCAC awards on Wednesday for their top-three event performances at Saturday's New England Small College Athletic Conference Championship.

Junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine) led the way with three All-NESCAC honors. Sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) and senior Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine) won two apiece, while junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) and sophomore Srishti Sunil (Bangalore, India) won one apiece.

UMF Women’s Track and Field Makes Solid Run in Aloha Relays

BRUNSWICK, Maine – University Of Maine Farmington women's track and field had a solid day at the Aloha Relays on Saturday afternoon, hosted by Bowdoin College.

Bridget Humphrey (Jefferson, Maine/Erskine Academy) placed fifth in the high jump by leaping 1.48m. Humphrey also had a top ten finish in the triple jump event with a score of 10.16 meters. In the discus throw, she tossed her disc 30.76 meters for a seventh place finish.

Molly Menice (Monmouth, Maine/Monmouth Academy) placed fifth in the javelin throw with a throw of 30.96 meters.

Laura Pulito (Brownfield, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) claimed a seventh place finish in the 800m with a new personal best of 2:23.05.

UMaine-Farmington will compete at the NAC Championship next Sunday, hosted by Colby-Sawyer College.

Bates College Women's track places third out of eight teams at Aloha Relays

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- The Bates women's track and field team won three events and finished third out of eight teams Saturday at Bowdoin's annual Aloha Relays.

Bates scored 125 points, trailing host Bowdoin (171) and Southern Maine (165) in the final count. Colby was fourth (90), followed by Wellesley (57.5), Husson (31.5), Mount HOlyoke (23) and UMaine-Farmington (4).

Bates won the 4x100 relay race with the second-fastest time in team history, 48.70 seconds, on the legs of sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.), junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine), junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) and senior captain Alexis Dickinson (Brunswick, Maine).

Junior Jessica Wilson (Cumberland, Maine) won the 1,500 meters in a career-best time of 4:39.14,

Bowdoin Women's Track & Field Claims the Crown at 2016 Aloha Relays

Addison Carvajal finished first in five of seven events to win the heptathlon

BRUNSWICK, Maine - The Bowdoin College women's outdoor track and field team claimed the title at the 2016 Aloha Relays hosted at Magee-Samuelson Track on Saturday afternoon.

The Polar Bears totaled 171 points to edge Southern Maine (165), followed by Bates (125), Colby (90), Wellesley (57.5), Husson (31.5), Mount Holyoke (23) and Maine-Farmington (4).

Meet Highlights

• Addison Carvajal won five of the seven events en route to a victory in the Heptathlon with a score of 3,982 points
• The Polar Bears went 1-2 in the 800 meters as Meghan Bellerose (2:18.33) and Sarah Kelley (2:19.05) finished within a second of each other
• Bowdoin also won the 4x800 meter relay (9:35.96) by a dominating 40-second margin behind the efforts of Julia O'Rourke, Bellerose, Allyson Fulton and Demi Feder
• Katie Krupp won the triple jump (11.79 meters) and was third in the long jump (5.11 meters) for Bowdoin
• Pamela Zabala claimed the discus throw (38.93 meters) while Lucy Knott took the hammer throw (45.82 meters)
• Ellen Masalsky rounded out the Bowdoin winners with a first-place finish in the javelin (37.82 meters)

Eagles Perform Well at Colby Invitational

WATERVILLE, Maine – Husson University women's track and field team competed in the Colby College Invitational on Saturday. The meet was a non-scoring event.

Jayda Cabrera broke two of the Eagles' individual records as the freshman standout produced new marks in the 100 meter dash (13.02) and the 200 meter dash (26.61). She finished second in the 100 and third in the 200.

USM's Gibeault Sets School Record in Pole Vault at Middlebury Invitational

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -- Highlighted by senior Molly Gibeault's (Brooklyn, Conn./Woodstock Academy) school record performance in the pole vault, the University of Southern Maine Huskies track and field team finished second among the five teams competing Saturday at the Panther Spring Invitational held at Middlebury College.

            The Huskies won five events and had 14 individual top three finishes en route to scoring 177 points.  Host Middlebury finished atop the score sheet with 226 points.  Bowdoin College was third with 151.

DURHAM, N.H. -- Led by two team record-setting performances by junior Allison Hill, Bates women's track and field created movement up and down its all-time performance list Saturday at the UNH Wildcat Invitational.

Competing against Division I New Hampshire and Maine as well as Division III Lesley College, the Bobcats won three events and scored 168 points, proving their mettle against the first-place Wildcats (209), the second-place Black Bears (193) and Lesley (16).

Eagles Finish Third Overall at the 2016 Outdoor Bowdoin Invitational

BRUNSWICK, Maine – Husson University women's outdoor track and field competed in 2016 Outdoor Bowdoin Invitational at Magee-Samuelson Track on Saturday and finished third overall with 80 points.

University of Southern Maine took the top spot among the six teams competing scoring 199 points. Host Bowdoin was runner-up with 164, followed by Husson, Colby College with 56, the University of Maine at Farmington with 39 and St. Joseph's College with seven points.

The combination of Brooke Hoople, Jayda Cabrera and Joan Overman powered the Eagles in numerous events. Hoople finished second in the 200 meter dash with a new school record of 26.93 and lead off the 4x100 meter relay team that finished third with a new school record of 51.83. The other members of the team were Cabrera, Shea Curley and Overman.

Cabrera placed fourth in the 100 meter dash (13.18) and fifth in the 200 meter dash (27.60) while Overman took sixth in the 100 meter dash (13.46) and finished as runner-up in the long jump with a jump of 4.83 meters.

Erin Ellison was a force in the hammer throw with a second place finish by throwing her hammer 43.92 meters and took third in the shot put with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 10.71 meters.
In the 200 meter dash, five Eagles ranked in the top 14, including Hoople and Cabrera in the top five. Hannah Clough came in eighth at 29.03 with Curley right behind her in ninth place at 29.67. Kerianne Downing followed by Curley in 10th place at 29.72 and Lara Sarett rounded out Husson's dominance in 14th with a time of 30.86.

Other top five finishes for the Eagles were Sarett in the 400 meter dash (1:08.28), Downing in the 100 meter hurdles (17.74), high jump (1.45m) and shot put (9.83m), Paige Rainford in the 400 meter hurdles (1:22.04), Kelly Kashian in the high jump (1.45m) and Faith Burnett in the hammer throw (38.27m).

The group of Hoople, Rainford, Clough and Sarrett combined to finish third in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:32.14.

The Eagles will return to the track next weekend at the Colby Invitational.

Bates Women's track sending team-record six athletes to NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS -- The Bates women's track and field team will send a program-record six student-athletes to this weeks' NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, with the field being announced Monday by the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Track and Field and Cross Country Committee.

Sophomore Sally Ceesay (Bronx, N.Y.) will return to NCAAs to compete in the triple jump for the second straight year, based on her program-record season-high mark of 38 feet, 6.75 inches.

Meanwhile junior Allison Hill (Brunswick, Maine) will make her NCAA Championship debut in the 60-meter hurdles, based on her program-record, season-best time of 8.86 seconds.

And for the fourth time in the past five years, Bates will also compete in the distance medley relay at NCAAs. Bates is the fifth seed out of 12 teams in the race, based on its flat-track time of 11:53.98 run at Tufts on Saturday. Senior Isabelle Unger (Charlotte, Vt.) ran the leadoff leg of 1,200 meters, followed by junior Claire Markonic (Millerton, N.Y.) in the 400-meter leg, first-year Ayden Eickhoff (Corvallis, Mont.) in the 800-meter leg and junior Jessica Wilson (Cumberland, Maine) in the final 1,600-meter leg.

Markonic has participated in the event in both the past two of years, earning two All-America honors in the process. Unger and Wilson have both competed once at NCAAs and are both one-time All-Americans.

The championships will be held March 11-12 at the Charles Benson Bear '39 Recreation and Athletic Center in Grinnell, Iowa, with Grinnell College serving as the official host.

All six Bates students were also named New England All-Region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, for ranking among the top three in their events in the crowded New England region.
