Bates (10-12) pitching combined to hold the Beavers (12-11) to only one hit. It's the fewest hits the Bobcats have surrendered to an opponent since February 17, 2010 when they one-hit Claflin University.
Maine-Farmington starter Jimmy Neal (0-2) shutout the Bobcats through the first four innings. But in
the fifth inning first-year Christian Colon (Hamden, Conn.) started the offensive barrage with a single. One out later sophomore Asher MacDonald (Hillsborough, N.C.) singled as well.
Then with two away, junior Brendan Fox (West Hartford, Conn.) doubled in both runners to put Bates up 2-0.
Senior Samuel Warren (Norfolk, Va.) followed with a triple to drive in Fox and senior captain Conor Reenstierna (Lincoln, Mass.) singled in Warren.
Junior John Dinucci (West Hartford, Conn.) capped the scoring with a two-run home run to right field, chasing Neal from the game in the process.
On the mound, Bates got an inning of shutout ball from senior captain Connor Colombo (Mendon, Mass.) to start the game. Sophomore Connor Speed (San Diego, Calif.) pitched two scoreless frames and junior Anthony Telesca (Holtsville, N.Y.) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of his own. Colombo, Speed and Telesca (3-0) combined to strike out six hitters.
Warren pitched a scoreless sixth inning and tallied a "K" of his own. First-years Brendan Smith (Hingham, Mass.) and Chris Krawczyk (Chevy Chase, Md.) each blanked Maine-Farmington for an inning apiece.
Then senior captain Rob DiFranco (Melrose, Mass.) tossed a scoreless ninth to wrap up the Bobcats' 10th win of the season.
Fox went 2-4 with a run scored, a double and two runs batted in. Reenstierna finished the day 2-2 with a run scored, an RBI and a walk. Colon went 1-2 with a run scored and a walk. Meanwhile MacDonald tallied a 3-4 game at the plate with a run scored. Warren's triple was the first of his season and Dinucci's homer was the second of his career.
