Women's Soccer Falls to Amherst in Season Opener

AMHERST, Massachusetts – The Bowdoin women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Amherst in the 2015 season opener on Saturday afternoon.

The Jeffs (2-0, 1-0 NESCAC) open the season with back-to-back wins after shutting out the Polar Bears (0-1, 0-1 NESCAC) through 90 minutes of regulation.

How It Happened
  • Grace Orr scored with five seconds remaining in the first half to put the Jeffs on top 1-0. The first-year netted her first collegiate goal off a low angle shot from the right end line.
  • Bowdoin opened the second half with a pair of shots from Julia Bottone and Taylor Haist before Amherst would force the ball back into the Polar Bears defensive end.
  • Hannah Guzzi doubled the Jeffs' lead 10:15 into the second half after beating a defender down the center and cutting left to draw Bowdoin goalie Bridget McCarthy off her line. Guzzi was able to bury a shot in the net.
  • Amherst held a slight 17-14 edge in shots, with a 6-1 corner kick advantage.
  • McCarthy made six saves in net for Bowdoin, while Holly Burwick stopped four shots for Amherst.
