Maine improves their record to 4-1 overall on the season while Providence drops to 0-5.
The Black Bears opened the game with an early goal 11 minutes in by Danielle Aviani (Surrey, British Columbia), it was assisted by Nicole Sevey (Skowhegan, Maine). Aviani was able to evade the goalie and put the Black Bears up early 1-0.
With seven minutes remaining in the first half, Cassidy Svetek (Burlington, Ontario) scored her second goal of the season with the assist from Casey Crowley (New Plymouth, New Zealand).
Maine carried a 2-0 lead into half-time with help from Emma Cochran (Surrey, British Columbia) who was able to hold the Friars to a shutout in the first half.
Emily Corbett (Listowel, Ontario) played the second half in goal for the Black Bears. Maine quickly
scored four minutes into the second half, off of a Nicole Sevey goal for her first of the season. Casey Crowley had her second assist of the day on Sevey's goal.
The Black Bears scored for their fourth unanswered goal of the game, by Madison Cummings (Belfast, Maine) a rebound goal off of a blocked shot for her first goal of the season.
Providence was able to get on the scoreboard 30 seconds later to bring the score to 4-1. Maine was able to stop multiple Friar shots at the end to secure the win.
Emma Cochran was able to improve her record to 4-0 on the season.
The Black Bears return home Sunday to face off against Harvard at 1 p.m.
