Chelimo, Sinkler earn wins in victory over Bates

NEW GLOUCESTER, Maine — All-American David Chelimo got the 2015 season off with a victory in the junior/senior race and Colby College teammate Sam Sinkler took the first-year/sophomore event in a 62-48 cross country victory over Bates College at Pineland Farms on Saturday.

The Colby junior/senior team had three of the top four places in a 29-26 victory (high score wins). The Mules’ first-year/sophomore squad took a convincing 33-22 win.

 

Chelimo earned 10 points for his winning time of 19 minutes, 15 seconds over the 6-kilometer course. Allen Sumrall of Bates placed second with a 19:27. Colby’s Silas Eastman was third and teammate Griffin Gagnon placed fourth, but both had times of 19:30. Nathan Madeira clocked a 19:39 to take eighth place.

 

Sinkler missed most of last season with an illness in his first year, but was healthy Saturday with a 19:52 victory in the first-year/sophomore race.

 

First-year Reeve Maddux had a time of 20:11 for third place and Benard Kibet was fourth at 20:14 for Colby. Noah Barreto took sixth in 20:28, Eli Tukel placed eighth with a 20:46, and Noel Feeney had a 20:47 for 10th.
