Bowdoin and Bates Play To Scoreless Draw in Men's Soccer

Bowdoin Stevie Van Siclen made two saves to keep Bates off the scoreboard on Wednesday
LEWISTON, Maine - The Bowdoin and Bates men's soccer teams played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday evening, 0-0, under the lights at Garcelon Field.

The Polar Bears stand at 2-2-1 (1-2-1 NESCAC) while the Bobcats move to  4-0-1 (1-0-1 NESCAC).

 
How It Happened
  • Bowdoin dominated the pace of play and had the better of the chances on the night, holding a 21-10 advantage in shots including an 8-2 lead in shots on goal.
  • The Polar Bears also held a 13-2 edge in corner kicks for the game.
  • Bates goaltender Sam Polito made eight saves to preserve the tie for the hosts, including a pair of saves early in overtime. Politio dove to stop a hard shot by Andrew Jones and then got a piece of Levi Morant's rebound.
  • Bowdoin also hit a pair of posts in the game.
  • Stevie Van Siclen and the Polar Bear defense did its part, holding Bates off the scoreboard. Van Siclen made two saves.
  • It is the second year in a row the teams fought into double overtime; the Polar Bears won 2-1 in extra time a year ago, their fifth straight win against Bates. The teams last tied on Sept. 18, 2010, a 0-0 result.

  • The Polar Bears will return to action on Saturday with their fourth NESCAC game in seven days as they host Middlebury at 11:30.
