MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Jocelyn Davee scored with 8:39 remaining to break a 6-6 tie and Nicole Carvalho
added a late insurance goal, as the University of New England edged
Salve Regina University, 8-6, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference match
Saturday afternoon (April 9) at Gaudet Middle School.
UNE won for the fifth time in six tries to improve to 7-4 overall, 3-1
in conference play. The Seahawks now stand at 3-7 (1-3 CCC).
Davee led all scorers with three goals, while Carvalho was a multiple-goal scorer. Korinne Bohunsky, Katie Cawley and Olivia Carpenter rounded out the Nor'easters' offensive output with a marker apiece.
Katie Kline was the lone Salve Regina player to find the back of the net more than once, scoring a
pair of goals.
After Kline scored just 25 seconds into the contests, the Nor'easters
rattled off three consecutive goals to establish a 3-1 lead. Salve
sandwiched two goals around one from Carpenter to cut their deficit to
one (4-3) heading into intermission.
Salve Regina ended up tying the match (6-6) on a goal by Kline with 9:35
on the clock, setting the stage for Davee to put the Nor'easters ahead
for good nearly a minute later.
Davee stuffed the stat sheeting, racking up seven draw controls and
three caused turnovers. Two of Davee's three goals came on free-position
shots.
UNE starting goalkeeper Courtney Kendall earned the win with 21 saves over 57:53 of playing time. Katie Jones had 11 stops for Salve Regina.
The Nor'easters will look for another win Tuesday when they head to
Boston for a game with Wentworth Institute of Technology (4 p.m.).
