Bowdoin Softball Suffers Setback in Series Opener at Tufts

MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts softball team scored six unanswered runs to come from behind and capture a 7-5 victory over Bowdoin in Friday's NESCAC series opener.

The Polar Bears (9-7-1, 0-1 NESCAC) jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first three innings before the Jumbos (8-6, 1-0 NESCAC) stormed back to take game one.

Game Highlights
  • Julia Geaumont tagged a two-run double in the top of the second to put Bowdoin on the board. Samantha Valdivia followed up by putting the ball in play to right, with Geaumont scoring on an error to go ahead 3-0.
  • Tufts responded with an RBI single to center in the bottom half of the inning off the bat of Michelle Chisdak.
  • Bowdoin added two more runs in the third. Jordan Gowdy scored after Emily Griffin reached on a fielder's choice and a subsequent error. Katie Gately tallied an RBI single to center and drove in Griffin to cap Bowdoin's scoring.
  • The Jumbos rattled off two rebuttal runs in the third off RBIs by Christian Cain and Summer Horowitz.
  • Samantha Sicillano accounted for the final four Tufts runs. A two-run double to left in the fourth and a two-run homer in the sixth put the game out of reach for Bowdoin.
By the Numbers
  • Geaumont pitched 5.2 innings for Bowdoin and allowed eight hits with four strikeouts.
  • Erica County earned the win for Tufts with seven innings of work. County struck out three and walked three.
  • Gately went 2-for-4 at the plate and Caroline Rice went 2-for-3. Geaumont led the Polar Bears with a pair of RBIs while Gowdy had a stolen base.
