Ellsworth, Maine - The Grand, downtown Ellsworth’s historic 1938 art-deco theatre, invites all interested Youth and Teens aged 7 to 17 to attend the 2013 School of Performing Arts Summer Theatre Camp. The Grand Summer Theatre camp will be directed by Robin Jones and feature a fully-staged musical production of “Story Theatre” combined with Broadway show tunes. and will result in a production of Paul Sills’ “Story Theatre” which will be performed with teens and youth on Friday July 26 at 7pm & Saturday July 27 at 1pm. (Sills is co-creator of the renowned Compass Players and Chicago’s Second City)
• Teen Camp- For Teens 12-17, this camp will run from July 1 through 27 (9am to 4pm, Mon-Fri only) and will result in a production of Paul Sills’ “Story Theatre” which will be performed with the Youth on Friday July 26 at 7pm & Saturday July 27 at 1pm. Please note there is no camp on July 4th.
• Teen Camp Showcase – There will be a special preview of “The Master Thief” from “Story Theatre” with songs and theatre games on Tuesday, July 9th at 7pm as part of the Grand’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Week.
This year’s Summer Camp program and production will include training in all aspects of theatre – instruction and rehearsals for stage performance, and also a chance for youth to learn technical aspects of stage craft. The play itself consists of multiple stories from the world of fairy tales, fables, myths and legends, so there are multiple opportunities for lead and supporting actors. Integrated into the stories are songs from the worlds of Broadway and Hollywood.
Both the Teen Camp and Youth Camp will consist of morning workshops in theatre arts specific to Sills’ “Story Theatre” technique (scene study, improvisation, mime, set/light/sound design and live effects, costuming, music, dance) and afternoon rehearsals for the production.
Registration is $200 for Youth Camp and $400 for Teen Camp. The deadline for registration is June 12th and the fees must be in paid in full with submission of the registration form.
