Colby's Rothenberg, Seiler have big days in men’s lacrosse loss

AMHERST, Mass. — Dylan Rothenberg made a collegiate-high 21 saves and Kevin Seiler had five points on the day for Colby College in a hard-fought 12-9 loss at seventh-ranked Amherst College on Saturday in NESCAC men’s lacrosse.

The Mules (3-8 overall, 0-6 NESCAC) played one of their best games of the season, taking a 3-2 lead after a quarter and a 4-3 margin at halftime.

 

The Purple & White (9-2, 5-1 NESCAC) had a 5-1 scoring margin in the third quarter to take control. Amherst led 11-6 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Mules scored three of the final four goals to tighten the score.

 

Rothenberg had 19 of his 21 saves in the final three quarters. Seiler had three goals and two assists, while Alex Rutan had two goals and one assist. Yuta Murata and Scott Miller both had one goal and one assist. Kevin Beil and Cillian Connor also tallied.

 

Kenny Jacobson, Michael Nathan, and Donald Vivian each had two caused turnovers and three ground balls. Rutan added five ground balls and face-off man Max Eberhart won 10 draws and had four ground balls. Jack Bratches chipped in with four ground balls.

 

Quinn Moroney had four goals, one assist, and seven ground balls for Amherst.
