Happenings

Damariscotta, Maine -  This week we conclude our ballet series and head towards the summer movie season.  We often won't know until a few days before what we'll be playing, given our desire to run the summer hits.  We're trying to make sure we have something for everyone - family films, romantic comedies, drama, action - you name it.  And when we can plan in advance, we will.  Please keep checking our website often for updates.  We look forward to seeing you at the movies!

Ballet in Cinema: The Royal Ballet presents La Fille Mal Gardée  is our final broadcast for our Winter ballet series, playing  Thursday May 24 at 7 PM  with a rebroadcast on Sunday May 27 at 2 PM.  It is the simple story of Lise, her suitor Colas and Lise's larger-than-life mother, the Widow Simone, who tries to marry her off to the simpleton son of a rich neighbor.  Choreographed by Frederick Ashton, it is full of delicious comedy but also wonderful, characterful choreography.

Dark Shadows (PG-13)

Based on the popular TV show from the late 1960s, Johnny Depp stars as Barnabas Collins, an imprisoned vampire, who is set free and returns to his ancestral home, where his dysfunctional descendants are in need of his  protection. Directed by Tim Burton.  Opens Friday May 25 at 7 PM and plays Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday.

Coming Soon

The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (PG-13) , starring Dame Maggie Smith and Dame Judi Dench, opens Friday June 1.  British retirees travel to India to take up residence in what they believe is a newly restored hotel. Less luxurious than its advertisements, the Marigold Hotel nevertheless slowly begins to charm in unexpected ways. Directed by John Madden.
