Coiley, Mikame come up big for Ponies in final regular season game

Playing in their final career regular season game, Foxcroft Academy seniors Cody Coiley and Shinsuke Mikame combined to go 5-5 with two singles, two doubles, a triple, three walks, seven runs, six RBI, and five stolen bases to propel the Ponies to an 18-4 win at PCHS on Thursday afternoon. Jesse Provost picked up his third win of the season for the Ponies, who finish at 11-5 in their return to Class B. The junior right-hander threw 51 of 68 pitches for strikes, punched out 10 hitters, allowed just four hits, and walked none in five solid innings of work.

Coiley, who is making it clear that he’s ready for postseason play, was 3-3 with 4 runs and 3 RBI and is 6-7 with nine RBI and five steals over the season’s final two contests. He finishes the regular season at .340 with a team-leading 16 RBI. The captain also made his first career appearance on the mound for the Ponies, slamming the door shut with a backwards K of Guilford’s Doran Labree.

Mikame, who absolutely pulverized a triple to the fence in left-center, also singled, scored three times, drove in three runs, and swiped two bases. Hunter Law remained red-hot at the plate, going 3-5 with two runs, two RBI, and three stolen bases, Luke Olson reached base four straight times and scored two runs, and Ryan Rebar drove in two runs. Kaleb Smith scored two runs (including a straight steal of home), and both Brooks Law and Dan Decker picked up their first career varsity hits. Law finished with a stolen base and two runs scored while Decker also collected a steal and a run.

The Ponies, who are the first team in Class B to finish the regular season, will have to wait to see how other teams finish up before they know what their postseason seed will be. They could finish anywhere from 3-6 in the final Heal Point standings. The preliminary round of the playoffs does not begin until Tuesday, June 5.
