Sea Dogs sweep the Fisher Cats 7-6 and 3-2

Portland can win the series on Thursday night

Manchester, New Hampshire - The Portland Sea Dogs (17-28) swept a doubleheader from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (17-27) 7-6 (8-innings) and 3-2 on Wednesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.  Portland sweeps their first twinbill on the road since August 17, 2011 at Reading.   With the two victories, the Sea Dogs are a ½ game behind the Fisher Cats for fifth place.

Game 1 Recap
The Sea Dogs used a balk and a two-run double from Juan Carlos Linares to beat the Fisher Cats 7-6 in eight innings.  Uviedo balked home Derrik Gibson to snap a 4-4 tie in eighth, Linares nailed his two-bagger off the left-field wall - proving to be the game-winning hit.  New Hampshire made things interesting in their half of the eighth off Caleb Clay.  Brian Bocock led off with a walk and scored on a two-run homer by Brad Glenn.  Clay retired the next three batters to earn his fourth Double-A save - all this season.

Brock Huntzinger (1-4) tossed 1.1 innings of scoreless relief to earn his first win of the season.  Uviedo (2-2) took the loss, yielding three runs on three hits in just one inning.

After being no-hit on Monday night, the Sea Dogs tacked on the first run of the doubleheader with a first inning-run off Deck McGuire (ND, 5 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, SO).  Jeremy Hazelbaker led off the game with a walk and scored on Ronald Bermudez's double down the left-field line.

The Fisher Cats and Mike McDade introduced themselves to Chris Hernandez (ND, 5.2 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 4 SO) in their first turn.  Brian Van Kirk singled and McDade smoked a two-run homer (#7) into the left-field seats.  The Sea Dogs came right back in the third inning, plating three runs off McGuire.

Juan Carlos Linares lined a two-out homer (#6) to left field, tying the game at two.  Portland would load the bases on a walk to Reynaldo Rodriguez, single by Bryce Brentz and a walk to Dan Butler.  Derrik Gibson nailed a two-run single to give the 'Dogs a 4-2 lead.  New Hampshire tied the game in the fifth inning on a two-double from Van Kirk.

Game 2 Recap
Billy Buckner (3-3) hurled six strong innings and Bryce Brentz clobbered a two-run homer in Portland's 3-2 victory.  Buckner's only blemish was a one-out homer in the sixth by Mike McDade.  The right-hander yielded five hits, two walks and fanned five.  Josh Fields surrendered a solo-homer to Sean Ochinko in the seventh inning but notched his third save of the year.

Buckner threw a season-high 99 pitches, escaping two jams with two on and nobody out.  The former Major Leaguer held the Fisher Cats 1-for-7 with runners-in-scoring position.

The Sea Dogs scored their sixth two-out run of the doubleheader off Fisher Cats' starter Clint Everts in the second inning.  Ryan Dent and Heiker Meneses drew two-out walks before a run-scoring single from Jeremy Hazelbaker.

Brentz gave Portland a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning, nailing a two-run over the left-centerfield wall of reliever Matt Wright.
