12 FA students recognized for performance on National Spanish Exam


Foxcroft, Maine - Congratulations to the 12 Foxcroft Academy students who attained national recognition for their excellent performance on the 2012 National Spanish Examinations. FA Spanish teacher Mirna Henderson’s students earned a total of one silver medal, two bronze medals, and nine honorable mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with 143,641 students participating in 2012.”

The national Spanish examinations are administered each year in grade 6 through 12 and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.  This year 22 students from Foxcroft academy took the exam. Lydia Zepeda earned a silver medal by outperforming 90 percent of exam takers while Yuanjiang Song (Candy) and Julian Zepeda placed in the top 25 percent, earning bronze medals. The following students placed in the top 35 percent nationally and earned honorable mention recognition: Jacob Labree, Brianna Pasanen, Kelsey Savage, Nhu thi nguyet (Mae), Clarissa Wright, Gabrielle Henderson, Marielle Thomas, Rachel Cody, and Chris Shorey.
