National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial Hosts Inaugural Motorcycle Ride

Kansas City, Missouri - The National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial is proud to host Spirit Ride, a motorcycle ride in partnership with Gail’s Harley Davidson, General Motors, the Kansas City Area Chevy Dealers and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), on Saturday, July 28, 2012.

The ride will start at Gail’s Harley-Davidson in Grandview, Mo., and end with a picnic and free concert on the grounds of Liberty Memorial.  The Museum will be open from 5-7 p.m. with free admission for all registered riders, and non-riders are encouraged to bring a picnic and enjoy the entertainment. All proceeds from the event will benefit the National World War I Museum, the nation’s only museum dedicated to sharing the stories of the Great War.

“The Liberty Memorial has a storied tradition of being a gathering place for the Kansas City community to honor our military,” says Museum President & CEO Brian Alexander. “The Spirit Ride is a great way to continue this tradition and encourage new audiences to share the spirit of liberty.”

To host the Spirit Ride, the Museum has partnered with organizations that are well known for their community involvement and support of veterans.

“General Motors, the GM Fairfax Assembly and the Kansas City Area Chevy Dealers are proud to be sponsors of the inaugural Spirit Ride,” says GM Communications Manager Bob Wheeler.

Additionally, Gail of Gail’s Harley-Davidson says, “Our team is grateful to the military for keeping us free on the open road, and we are proud to be a part of the Spirit Ride."

The VFW is also a sponsor of the event.

“The VFW and the National World War I Museum at Liberty Memorial have a rich bond of friendship grounded in our mutual love of country and deep appreciation for those who have served and sacrificed on behalf of our great nation,” said VFW Adjutant General Allen “Gunner” Kent. “We are proud to be part of the Spirit Ride because it is a wonderful opportunity to provide thousands of our fellow citizens a way to express their patriotic pride and demonstrate their gratitude to those who have and continue to serve so well.”

Companies who wish to sponsor the Spirit Ride or rider teams are encouraged to visit www.theworldwar.org/spiritride to download a sponsorship form. Riders are encouraged to register online at www.feelthepower.com.
