Trenton Takes Series Finale 3-0 Over Dogs

Thunder Pitching Throws 8.1 Perfect Innings

Trenton, NJ - Trenton (51-38) pitching was spectacular in Monday's series finale against the Portland Sea Dogs (36-54) as the Thunder beat Portland 3-0. Thunder starting pitcher David Phelps (1-0, 0,00) and reliever Danny Farquhar combined to retire the final 25 batters in the one-hitter. The game lasted 2:27 with 4,479 fans in attendance at Waterfront Park.

Phelps got the win and went 6.2 innings in his stellar performance. Reynaldo Rodriguez drew a two out walk in the top of the first inning but Trenton pitching was perfect from that point on.

Phelps retired 18 consecutive Portland hitters before being lifted from the game in favor of Danny Farquhar. Phelps gave up just one hit and struck out 11 batters. Farquhar retired all seven hitters he faced after Phelps' departure. Farquhar also struck out three and picked up his second save of the season.

Three solo home runs was all the offense Trenton needed in defeating Portland on Monday.

The Trenton Thunder wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. Jose Pirela blasted two home runs in his three-hit performance. Pirela led-off the game with his 6th home run of the year putting the Thunder in front of the Sea Dogs 1-0. He went deep for the second time in two at bats in the 3rd inning. The homer padded Trenton's lead  to two over the Dogs.

Rob Segedin capped the day offensively with a solo shot in Trenton's half of the 7th inning off of reliever Chorye Spoone.

Jason Urquidez was strong in relief of Caleb Clay going 3.2 innings giving up just one hit and striking out four. Including Urquidez's outing, the Sea Dogs' bullpen had tossed 17 scoreless innings before Segedin's homer off of Spoone.

Jeremy Hazelbaker doubled (13) in the top of the 1st inning for the lone hit for the Sea Dogs.

Caleb Clay (3-3, 5.59) got the starting nod over projected starter Stolmy Pimentel and took the loss going 2.1 innings giving up two runs on four hits. He also struck out one and walked one.
