Bowen statement on approval of two additional charter schools
Education Commissioner Stephen Bowen issued the following statement Tuesday in response to the Maine Charter School Commission’s approval of two additional public charter schools:
“This is great news for the students who will attend these new, innovative public charter schools, and great news for Maine’s efforts to give more students and families choices in their education. We know that the status quo is not working. We need to look to a variety of new opportunities, including those found at these public charter schools, to improve student engagement and achievement. We’re off to a great start with these approvals, and I hope we continue to approve schools that focus on different learning strengths while sharing a common goal: offering innovative, flexible education curricula to students throughout Maine.”
