Sea Dogs Win in 9th 3-2 Over Fisher Cats


Pimentel Goes 7 Innings

Manchester, NH - The Sea Dogs (43-56) plated two runs in the ninth inning with the help of two errors leading to a 3-2 Portland victory over New Hampshire (38-61) at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium in front of 7,939. Stolmy Pimentel turned in the third consecutive strong pitching performance from Sea Dogs' starters on Thursday Night firing seven innings of one run baseball. The win is the Dogs seventh in the last nine games.

Pimentel has fared well against New Hampshire, 3-1 with a 4.05 ERA, and retired nine straight Fisher Cats stretching from the fifth to the seventh inning keeping the Dogs in a game that remained even at one until the eighth. Pimentel received a no decision for Portland giving up one run on six hits while striking out seven. His ERA dropped from 5.37 to 5.00 on the season.

Jeremy Hazelbaker supported Pimentel with a solo home run (14) coming in the Sea Dogs half of the third inning. The blast was Hazelbaker's fifth home run in his last eight games and put the Dogs up 1-0.

The Fisher Cats answered immediately with a run of their own in the third. Three singles in a row to lead-off the frame by John Tolisano, Brian Bocock and Ryan Goins loaded the bases with no outs. John Marisnick subsequently grounded into a double-play scoring Tolisano on the play.

Pitching dominated the following four innings but New Hampshire took a one run advantage in the eighth inning. Brian Bocock led-off with a walk and two batters later Marisnick singled to left field sending Bocock to third. Bocock stole home on a Kenen Bailli strikeout putting the Fisher Cats in front 2-1.

Portland took advantage of a couple of fielding errors in the ninth to take a 3-2 lead. Marquez Smith led-off with a single and advanced to second on a Kevin Howard throwing error. Ryan Dent came in to pinch run for Smith and came around to score on a fielder's choice which saw Peter Hissey reach on Howard's second throwing error of the inning. Dan Butler, who was hit by a pitch, scored the game winner on a RBI sacrifice fly by Drew Hedman.

Ryan Pressly (1-0, 1.93) came in to the game in the eighth for Pimentel and pitched the final two innings. Pressly earned the win giving up one run on one hit. He also struck out three and walked two.

Sam Dyson (0-1, .69) took the loss for New Hampshire pitching the last two innings giving up two unearned runs on two hits. Chad Jenkins got the start for the Fisher Cats going seven innings giving up one run on three hits while striking out five.

The Sea Dogs will take the field against the Fisher Cats in game two of the three game series Friday at 7:05 PM.  Southpaw Chris Hernandez (4-8, 3.13) will take the mound for Portland against New Hampshire righty Ryan Tepera (3-1, 3.56).
