Binghamton, NY - The Binghamton Mets recorded just one hit during the first inning on Sunday, but that hit was part of a four-run frame, as the home team came flying out of the gates, and never looked back. Jackie Bradley Jr. homered, and Kolbrin Vitek cracked an RBI double for Portland, who fell by a final score of 6-3 in the series finale at NYSEG Stadium.
The Mets got off to a quick start, capitalizing on Stolmy Pimentel's lack of command in the first inning. Juan Lagares and Sean Kazmar led off with back-to-back walks, before a fly out by Wilmer Flores. Eric Campbell and Jefry Marte followed with walks, before Dustin Martin brought home the second run, when he was hit by a pitch. Juan Centeno then put two more runs on the board, blooping a single into left field, plating Campbell and Marte. Centeno's hit spelled the end of the day for Pimentel, who lasted just one-third of an inning, allowing four runs, one hit, and four walks. Caleb Clay got the final two outs of the opening frame, without any further damage being done. Clay did allow one run in the second, when Sean Kazmar deposited a 1-0 offering over the left field wall, making the score 5-0 in Binghamton's favor. However, that was the lone run on Clay's line, as he went three and two-thirds innings, surrendering three hits and one walk, while striking out four. Binghamton's Mark Cohoon held the Sea Dogs without a hit, until Derrik Gibson found open space on the left side of the infield in the top half of the fifth. One inning later, Portland broke through on the scoreboard. Jackie Bradley Jr. led off the sixth inning with a towering home run to right field. Then, with two outs, the visitors received back-to-back doubles from Reynaldo Rodriguez and Kolbrin Vitek, as they trimmed the deficit to three. Cohoon's day ended in the sixth, as he went five and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs, five hits, and two walks, without striking out a batter. The Mets got one of the runs back in the last half of the seventh. With one out, Eric Campbell and Jefry Marte each received walks, setting the table for Dustin Martin, who dropped a single into center field. The hit drove in Campbell, as the home team upped their lead to 6-2. The run was charged to Will Latimer, who tossed two and one-third innings, allowing that lone tally, on two hits and three walks, while striking out one. Four Binghamton relievers combined to keep Portland off of the board for the final three innings, finishing their 6-2 triumph.
