Kiplinger Magazine names Portland the best city in the country for the young at heart
PORTLAND, Maine – This month, Kiplinger Personal Finance Magazine named the City of Portland the Best City in the U.S. for Your Second Act. Citing the city’s lively arts scene, highly skilled workforce and inventive cuisine, Portland was picked the top city for those who have hit retirement age and are looking for a place to call home for their second act. The magazine and the Martin Prosperity Institute selected cities based upon their reasonable living costs, strong employment growth and well educated and tech-savviness populations. Portland earned high marks for its low crime rate, high-quality medical facilities and home base opportunities for professionals who telecommute or fly to their jobs.

Kiplinger also identified the city’s downtown with exceptional shopping in the historic Old Port and its lively arts scene boasting many riches including numerous galleries in the Arts District, a symphony, ballet, opera company, theater and the Portland Museum of Art. Portland’s renowned food scene was also highlighted as an attraction for those young at heart.
Kiplinger’s selection is the second national ranking for the City of Portland in a little more than a week. Parenting Magazine named the City of Portland the 3rd Best City in the U.S. for Families. Citing the city’s low crime, quality education, and active family living, the magazine described Portland as a “tranquil kid-friendly city to call home.” The magazine also ranked Portland as the 3rd best city for quality education in the country
