Belfast, Maine - The Belfast Maskers continue their twenty-fifth anniversary theatre season with open-air performances of the musical Brigadoon, by Lerner and Loewe in July and August. This lively show is the central production of the company’s celebratory season with music, dance, live farm animals and humor in a magical evening of theatre.
The musical is set in the fictitious Scottish hamlet of Brigadoon, an enchanted village that is unchanging and unknown to the outside world except for one day every 100 years. Two visitors from New York stumble upon the village on its special centennial day and the town’s magical spell is put in jeopardy.
Brigadoon performances will be held at Steamboat Landing Park in Belfast from Thursday through Sunday, July 26 - 29 at 7 p.m. Searsport performances will be held outside at the Town Hall (Union Hall), Thursday through Sunday, August 2 - 5 at 7 p.m. Admission for all performances is $18 for adults; $10 for teens; and $5 for children 5-12. This central production of the Belfast Maskers 25th Anniversary season is Directed by Aynne Ames, with musical direction by Jamie Hagedorn and choreography by Iveagh Gott with Michelle Cox and the Atlantic Ballet Company. The Belfast Maskers are celebrating their 25th anniversary in 2012. The organization is a 501(c)(3) non-profit providing quality theater for, and with, the community since 1987. Belfast Maskers offer an internship program that draws young actors from the U.S. and abroad; run a well-attended summer camp for youngsters; and produce a season of theater fare for approximately 3,500 residents and visitors year-round.
