Calf Unveiling Day Celebrates Agriculture

Rockport, Maine - The 12th Annual Aldermere Farm Calf Unveiling Day, or CUD as their staff like to call it, is on Saturday May 12 from 10 AM – 3 PM and is an open house type of community event where Aldermere Farm and many other local farmers and agricultural programs provide information and goods during this one day gathering. It is free to attend and open to the public.

Visitors will have the opportunity to see Aldermere’s new Belted Galloway calves and the rest of the herd, learn about the Farm and its farming practices, speak with guides and the Aldermere Achievers 4-H club about their work, and visit with the many other local farmers who participate. The public is encouraged to come and learn about local food, farms, and agricultural programs happening right here in the Mid-coast area.

Currently, Terra Optima, Sunnyside Farm, Perennial Favorites, and Hatchet Cove Farm are the farms that will be on site. Programs that have an agricultural component that will be there include Tanglewood and Blueberry Cove 4-H Camp, Sweet Tree Arts, Barefoot Books, Erickson Fields Preserve, and Aldermere Farm. The Uproot Pie Company will be making wood-fired pizzas with local ingredients, and the Aldermere Achievers 4-H club will have food for sale. Celtic and Old-Time music duo Emma Walsh and Chuck Donnelly are scheduled from 10 AM – noon.

Aldermere Farm is located at 20 Russell Avenue in Rockport and is owned and managed by Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT), a statewide land conservation organization. MCHT manages Aldermere and the Erickson Fields Preserve as working farms and education centers helping visitors gain a deeper appreciation for agriculture and land conservation.  For more information on this event and others, please call 236-2739, email spost@mcht.org, or visit www.aldermere.org.
