Thomaston Public Library’s Third Presentation for the July Sunday Author Series!

Thomaston, Maine - On Sunday July 22nd at 2pm, Lois Delano Faulkingham will be reading from Uncle Sam's Mistress, her novel of love and suspense in a Maine coast town in the Sixties.  Grace Beckett, the "Postmistress" of Grace, Maine, and correspondent to the local newspaper, while trying to solve a suspicious death and other mysterious happenings, is falling in love with the man who may be at the center of the problem.  This intimate view of small town life over fifty years ago is a portrait of a time and a place.  In it she delves into family life and exposes the friendships and rivalries of the good people living in Grace, viewed from its hub - the Post Office - sharing the workings of one woman's heart.

The author has two other novels in the works - one based on her family in the Forties and another set on an island in the Seventies - as well as a book of short stories, children's and young adult pieces and some non-fiction.  She has kept journals since childhood, and writes poetry.

Librarian, Joanna Hynd says, “I have heard that this book is very intriguing, and I am looking forward to hearing about the backstory on Faulkingham’s novel and whether her novel is taken from her personal experiences as postmistress.”

Lois was Postmaster of Cushing, Maine, for twenty years, and has lived in the same beautiful town - and been writing - for most of her life.

This the third of a four part author series at the library. Gwen Southgate, author of the "Coin Street Chronicles" will be reading from her riveting memoirs on the following Sunday, July 29th.This reading will be held at the Thomaston Academy Building in room 200.
