Boles Earns 700th Career Managerial Win
Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (39-54) swept a doubleheader from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (36-56) Friday night before a crowd of 5,199 at Hadlock Field. Bryce Brentz homered in each game highlighting the Sea Dogs offense. Portland earned a 4-3 come from behind win in game one and took game two 3-1. With the two wins, Sea Dogs' manger Kevin Boles earned his 700th career managerial win. The Sea Dogs have won three straight games to open the second half of the season.
In game one the Sea Dogs rallied from a 3-1 deficit to in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. Bryce Brentz and Dan Butler hit back-to-back homers off starter Deck McGuire to lead-off the inning. The Sea Dogs would load the bases with two outs but were unable to force the game winning run home.
Reynaldo Rodriguez led-off the eighth inning with his third triple of the year off Chris Jakubauskas (0-1). Brentz followed with a single to right-field to give the Sea Dogs a 4-3 win.
Chris Carpenter made a Major League rehab appearance for the Sea Dogs. He started the game and tossed two innings allowing one run on two hits. He struck out three and did not yield a walk. Jake Marisnick singled off Carpenter in the first and scored on a Kenen Bailli triple as New Hampshire took a 1-0 lead.
Marisnick struck again in the fifth when he doubled home Ryan Goins off Chris Balcom-Miller to extend the Fisher Cats lead to 3-1. Balcom-Miller tossed five solid innings in relief allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits. He recorded four strikeouts.
Chorye Spoone (1-0) picked-up the win for the Sea Dogs tossing a perfect eighth inning.
Rodriguez was 3-for-4 in the contest with two doubles and a triple.
In game two, Hazelbaker launched his 11th home run of the season in the first inning to tie the game at one.
Brentz hit his second home run of the night and 12th of the season off Matt Wright (1-2) in the third inning, a two run shot that gave the Sea Dogs a 3-1 lead.
Jeremy Kehrt (3-3) earned the win firing five innings allowing one run on four hits and notching two strikeouts.
Caleb Clay closed out the game with two perfect innings to earn his sixth save.
The series will continue Saturday evening at 6:00 PM. The Sea Dogs will send right-handed pitcher Stolmy Pimentel (2-4, 5.84) to the mound. The Fisher Cats will counter with righty Chad Jenkins (4-8, 5.36). The action can be heard live on 95.5/ 95.9 FM WPEI.
