Maine Department of Agriculture: Northern Maine Fair Season to Begin with Houlton Agricultural Fair
AUGUSTA, Maine – Northern Maine’s agricultural fair season will start with a bang this week with the opening of the Houlton Agricultural Fair on Wednesday, July 4, at the Houlton Fair Grounds, Community Park.
The County-based fair will host the largest fireworks show north of Portland for the national holiday, starting at 9:20 p.m. at the fair grounds, according to fair officials.
“I’m looking forward to another great year of the Houlton Fair,” said Houlton Fair President Paul Cleary. “Without the help of more than 100 volunteers every year, the fair wouldn’t be a success.”
This year’s fair runs from July 4-8, and admission is $10 a person with on-site parking at $5 a vehicle. The popular event will bring back many fair favorites, such as more than 23 children’s games for kids of all ages; a Demolition Derby; truck and tractor pulls; and more than 10 4-H livestock competitions in an expanded livestock area.
New this year is the first-ever “Live and Local Music Fest” on Friday, July 6, featuring local bands playing all afternoon and evening long, starting at 12 p.m. noon at the softball field.
Friday, July 6, also is Family Day at the Houlton Agricultural Fair, and admission is only $25 a carload.
