UMaine Hutchinson Center announces “5 UMaine Mondays in July”


Belfast, Maine - Maine is the perfect location for summertime activities and midcoast Belfast is just the place to enjoy both “Writer’s Workshops” as well as Cultural events being offered this July as part of the “Summer Folk” series………..for all of us who are lucky enough to be here for the summer.  Mark your calendars and join us at the air-conditioned UMaine Hutchinson Center, 80 Belmont Avenue, Belfast.

The daytime Writer’s Workshops include:

July 2nd:  Managing Point of View (Bruce Pratt)9:00-12:30
July 2nd:  Turn Your Memoirs into a Book (CharlsyeDiaz) 1:00-3:00
July 9th:  New & Renew: Poetry Writing(Kathleen Ellis 3.5 hrs) 9:00-12:30
July 9th:  Intro to Creative Writing (Leonore Hildebrandt, 3.5 hrs) 1:00 - 3:30
July 16th:  Mastering Dialogue in Short Fiction(Bruce Pratt) 9:00-4:00
July 23rd: Fiction Manuscript(Bruce Pratt) 9:00-4:00
July 30th:  Turn Your Memoirs into a Book II(Charlsye Diaz) 9:00-12:30

Free Cultural Events (starting at 6:30 pm) include: (Evening events are located in the air-conditioned auditorium with spacious seating for over 100!)

July 2nd:  Captain’s Courageous: 1937, the film(introduced by Sandy Phippen).
July 9th: Philip Conkling:President, Island Institute; Island Living 1890-the present; Discussion &Book Signing.
July 16th: Michael Komanecky :Chief Curator, Farnsworth Museum: Presentation and discussion on The Wyeth’s(1890-1960).
July 23rd: History of Boat Building: J.B. Turner, Front Street Shipyard and Taylor Allen, Rockport Marine
July 30th: Peyton Place (1957), the film (introduced by Sandy Phippen).
