Kalie, when did you start singing?
I started singing when I was 2 years old. My mom was recruiting people to sing the national anthem at local basketball games and I would go with her to rehearsals. After awhile, I started asking her if I could sing it. She thought she'd humor me but I ended up singing all the way until "the rocket's red glare..." and then passed her the mic and said "mommy, you finish!"

Was it your dream to be a singer?
I can't remember a time when I didn't feel at home on stage. I wrote my first song at six years old, and I haven't stopped since. I remember in 2nd grade, I'd be practicing writing my autograph and dreaming of performing in front of thousands of people.

Does your parents support you?
My mom is a single mother, and we are incredibly close. She always wants what's best for me and she's always there to listen to a new song that I've written, even if it's 1 o'clock in the morning.

Do you write your own songs?
Yes. So far, I have written every one of my songs by myself.

If so, tell us what goes into writing a great song?
I find that my best songs are the ones full of emotion, whether it's that feeling you get when you first meet someone that you want to fall in love with one day, or when you break up and have so much left unsaid. Channeling all that into a song is one of the coolest feelings.

Where was your first performance, were you excited?
One of my first performances was at my church camp when I was 10. I sang a cover song for the talent show with another girl from my cabin, and I was very excited. We got a standing ovation.

Where have you been able to  perform?
I've been blessed with many performance opportunites. Most recently, I played in a writer's round at the Hotel Indigo in Nashville, and I opened for the Backstreet Boys & Far East Movement at Perez Hilton's birthday party out in Los Angeles.

Who inspires you with your singing and songwriting?
I'm really inspired by 90's rock and a lot of country, but some of my favorites are Tom Petty, Vertical Horizon, The Wreckers, The Goo Goo Dolls, Shania Twain, Shane McAnally, Kacey Musgraves and Sunny Sweeney.

If you could perform anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would love to one day perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

Along the same line, who would you love to perform with?
I would love to one day perform alongside Keith Urban. He puts on such a good show and he is absolutely legendary.

What are some of your goals for your Music?
I have a bucketlist of things I want to achieve with my music, and it's been really neat to cross some of those off lately, like "raise more than 10,000 for music in public schools" (we raised 34k at Perez's birthday party) and "play in at least one movie" ("Meredith" in Morgan Nichols' How To Make Movies At Home)

What do you hope to accomplish with your singing/songwriting?
I'm always striving for the best, and I want my music to reflect that. With every song I write, I perfect my craft a little bit more.

Kalie, do you have any advice for those wanting to start a career in singing and songwriting?
Write what you feel. If you are honest and genuine with your music, your listeners will feel that and they will be attracted to it as well.

Is there anything else you want our readers to know about you, your singing/songwriting?
My my first single "Cloud 9" came out on iTunes this week and you should really go check it out!
