RED SOX TOP PITCHING PROSPECT ANTHONY RANAUDO JOINS SEA DOGS



Right-Hander Slated to Make Double-A Debut Tuesday Night


Portland, Maine- Boston Red Sox top pitching prospect Anthony Ranaudo has joined the Portland Sea Dogs. The right-hander is scheduled to make his Double-A debut Tuesday night against the Reading Phillies at 7:05 PM at First Energy Stadium in Reading, Pennsylvania. Ranaudo was activated from the High-A Salem Red Sox disabled list and transferred to Double-A Portland.  Ranaudo will wear uniform # 44.

Ranaudo is rated by Baseball America as the number four prospect and the top pitcher in the Red Sox farm system in 2012. In 2011, his first professional season, he went 9-6 with a 3.97 ERA with 117 strikeouts in 26 games between Single-A Greenville and High-A Salem. He ranked sixth among Red Sox farmhands with 117 strikeouts.

Baseball America also rates the 22 year-old as having the "Best Curveball" in the Red Sox minor league system. The 6'7" pitcher was the Red Sox third pick (sandwich pick between 1st and second rounds, 39th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.

With the addition of Ranaudo, Portland's roster now stands at the Eastern League limit of 25 players.
