I-295 Project Calls for Overnight On/Off Ramp Closings This Week At Forest Avenue Interchange

I-295 Project Calls for Overnight On/Off Ramp Closings This Week At Forest Avenue Interchange
Editor: David Mills

PORTLAND, ME - Work on Interstate 295 Northbound (NB) will require overnight closings for three on/off ramps scheduled for Wednesday, May 2, at Portland's Forest Avenue interchange - although cooler evenings may force workers to wait for warmer air to arrive before paving can get underway.

Work associated with these overnight ramp closings may take one to two weeks. Highway improvement work can be both weather and temperature dependent, and delays are possible.

Construction crews will temporarily close the eastbound Forest Avenue I-295 NB on-ramp, the westbound Forest Avenue I-295 NB on-ramp, and the Exit 6B I-295 NB off-ramp to Forest Avenue. The closings, which will not affect all three ramps at the same time, will take place between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., Sunday through Thursday and Friday between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m.

All three ramps will remain open overnight on Saturdays.

Drivers who would normally use Exit 6B to join Forest Ave should take Exit 7 at Franklin Street, turn right onto Marginal Way and continue to Forest Avenue.

Those seeking to travel north on I-295 can use the Franklin Street on-ramp via Marginal Way.

Motorists are urged to visit MaineDOT's website at mainedot.gov for more details including maps, updates, and to sign up for email alerts. The website also features eight webcams, updated every five minutes, offering both northbound and southbound views of I-295. Motorists can now check for possible traffic congestion before they head out onto the Interstate. MaineDOT appreciates the patience of all motorists during this construction period, and also asks motorists to drive safely through all work zones.
