Festival of Independence: Four Days of Fun in the Midcoast
From Camden through Rockport, to Owls Head and to Thomaston: this Fourth of July week get ready for music, fireworks, family fun, cool cars, a traditional parade, schooner racing, and more. This year a variety of Midcoast events and organizations have teamed up to offer the Festival of Independence: Four Days of Fun in the Midcoast for the Fourth of July holiday week. There will be concerts, parades, family events, car shows, windjammer racing, and fireworks throughout the Penobscot Bay region, with fun and affordable options for all tastes.
“The Fourth of July is one of those times in the year when people can slow down and do things with the family, just for fun,” said Daniel Bookham, executive director of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce. “This year, we’re encouraging people to explore the communities of Penobscot Bay and the Camden Hills, where they can hear all kinds of music, enjoy a hiking trail with views of the ocean, see windjammers racing, watch a parade and find something great to eat.”

7/4 Music By the Sea, Camden. Noon to 5 pm: featuring the Katahdin Valley Boys, Maine’s Own 195th Army Band and Steelin’ Thunder. Presented by the Camden Rotary Club in Camden’s Amphitheatre and Harbor Park.
7/4 Bay Chamber Concerts presents The Engagements, 7:30-9pm, Dance the night away to classic funk and soul covers, 80’s favorites, and everything in between. Free! Harbor Park, Camden.
7/4 Fireworks over Thomaston, 9pm
7/4 Camden harbor fireworks, 9pm. Presented by the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce.
7/6. Great Schooner Race. 11:00 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. Penobscot Bay between Rockland and Camden. More than two dozen tall ships gather for an exciting all-day race in which guests may participate.
