Author Event: Jeffrey Lewis

Blue Hill, Maine - Castine author Jeffrey Lewis will read from his new book Berlin Cantata at the Blue Hill Public Library on Thursday July 26th at 7:00 PM.  The story centers on a Jewish-American woman who travels to Berlin to reclaim the house from which her parents were expelled by the Nazis during World War II. Told from 13 different points of view, it is a story of atonement, discovery, and identity.

Born in New York and educated at Yale, Jeffrey now lives in Los Angeles and Castine. He spent much of his career creating, writing and producing television series and screenplays, but since the late 1990s, Lewis has turned to writing fiction.  In 2004, he began publishing his Meritocracy Quartet, a group of four loosely-linked novels intended to chart the progress of his generation over four decades.  Meritocracy:  A Love Story was published in 2004, and it won the Independent Publishers Award for Fiction and the ForeWord magazine Book of the Year Silver Award for Fiction. He received two Emmys and numerous nominations, as well as the Writer’s Guild Award for his work as a writer and producer on Hill Street Blues.

Other novels include The Conference of the Birds (2005), Theme Song for an Old Show (2007), and Adam the King (2008). The latter received a four star review in People Magazine as well as starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and the Library Journal.
