Rockland, Maine - University College at Rockland celebrated the graduation of 65 local university students on Saturday, May 5. About 130 guests, including parents, spouses and children attended the ceremony held at University College at Rockland at the Breakwater building in Rockland.
The keynote address was delivered by Rosa Redonnett, Executive Director of Students Affairs for the University of Maine System. Redonnett praised students for taking a leap into the unknown and seeing it through to successful completion.
Although students will also march in the formal cap and gown ceremony on their home campus, University College at Rockland hosts a special recognition for those who have taken their course work locally.
Kathleen Dexter, Dean of Students at the University of Maine at Augusta presented special student awards:Joshua Bowen Award for Performing Arts to Matthew Wellman;
Bennett D.Katz Scholarship to Margaret Junge & Anna McEnulty; Honors Program Vice Presidents Frank Pavalkis & Anna McEnulty; Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges to Willow Henry-Elwell & Richard Fortuna; and, the prestigious James H. Woodworth Memorial Award to Courtney York.
Student speakers included Adam Kennedy, graduating with a degree in Medical Laboratory Technology who spoke of working 40 - 60 hour work weeks while pursuing his dream of a college degree. Kathy Felch graduating with a BA in Art presented a slide of show of her final senior project.
