'Aida' Auditions at the Waldo Theatre
Waldoboro, Maine - The downtown Waldo Theatre will hold auditions for its summer musical "Aida" Sunday, May 6 and Wednesday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the theater, Main Street/Route 220.
Elton John and Tim Rice's "Aida" is a contemporary musical take on a grand classic tale of the timeless bond between an enslaved Nubian princess and an Egyptian soldier. As forbidden love blossoms between them, the young lovers are forced to face death or part forever. Together, they set a shining example of true devotion that ultimately transcends the vast cultural differences between their warring nations, heralding a time of unprecedented peace and prosperity.
The show is being directed by Melissa Hearth with musical direction by Sean Fleming. Heidi Sawyer, a sailmaker of no small renown, will be designing the set. Show dates are Saturday, July 14 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, July 15 at 3 p.m.; and Thursday through Saturday, July 19 through 21 at 7:30 p.m.
Auditioners should be high school age or older. Those auditioning for Aida, Amneris or Radames must sing one of the songs from the show featuring the part they are auditioning for. Aida and Radames auditioners should be familiar with "Written in the Stars" because they will be asked to sing the duet either at the audition or during callbacks, if such are necessary. Those not singing a piece from the show should come prepared with sheet music. Anyone auditioning for a role featuring a solo must sing at auditions with musical accompaniment (Fleming on piano).
The cast consists of three leads and five supporting roles with a busy vocal/dance ensemble (lines too) of 13 or more. Those who wish to audition but cannot make either of these dates should contact Hearth to make special arrangements by sending email to melissa@thewaldo.org.
