“Your Blue Hill Library Week” Celebration

Blue Hill, Maine - The Blue Hill Public Library will be holding a week-long celebration, "Your Blue Hill Library Week," August 3rd to10th. According to Library Director Rich Boulet, “This is a time to celebrate, know, use, and love the library. The library has many special programs and events planned, for both adults and children. The goal is to provide something for everyone!”

The library is very grateful to the Tradewinds Marketplace for matching donations made to the library at their registers for an overlapping period, from August 1st to 14th, up to $5,000!

Events planned for kids teenagers:

A garlic harvest and pesto party across the street in Healthy Peninsula’s community demonstration garden on Sat, Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. We'll make pesto, plant new seeds, and enjoy a thematically inspired tale.
Noted wildlife, underwater and travel photographer Gary Harmatz will share his photographs and stories of the wonderful world of exotic and highly endangered wildlife in a presentation called “Animals, Animals, Animals,” Sat, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m.
A screening for teens of the film Captain Marvel, starring Brie Larson, on Sat, Aug. 3 at 4 p.m.
A special, multilingual storytime at 10:30 a.m. on Tue, Aug. 6. We will read picture books in several languages, sing songs and do a craft to take home.
Library Mini-Golf After Hours! We’ll be playing 8 holes, all through the downstairs Tue, Aug. 6, 6:30 to 8 p.m. When has anyone ever gotten to play golf in a library?
Kids are invited to bring a pet or stuffed animal to the Animal Tea Party on Wed, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.
On Thu, Aug. 8, 10 a.m. to noon kids of all ages are invited to participate in the culminating event for the 4-week series exploring and writing about nature. Participants will post the story that was written along the new Peter's Brook Three Bridges Trail in Blue Hill.
Teens are invited to come play board and card games in the Young Adult area on Thu, Aug. 8, 7 to 8:30 p.m. Yes! There will be snacks!
Everyone participating in the summer reading program is invited to a Summer Reading Party on Fri, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m.
Local artist, author and illustrator Rebekah Raye will lead a mural painting workshop for kids on Sat, Aug. 10 at 10:30 a.m. Participants will paint images of life at sea, from birds to fish, fishermen to boats. The mural will be scrolled through a Crankie, a traditional storytelling, panorama device. A performance of the finished piece will happen at noon for families and friends.
Kids are invited to an electronic music workshop on Sat, Aug. 10 at 2:00 p.m. to learn to play drum machines and synthesizers with Deer Isle electronic musician, Sam Lothrop.

Events planned for adults:
Come join your select board on Mon, Aug. 5 at 4:30 for a cup of tea and a chance to chat about the town. Blue Hill Select Board members Ellen Best, Jim Dow, and Vaughn Leach will be available to spend some time with anyone who is interested in sharing a cuppa and talking in a casual setting.
Are you curious about the library's digital services? Our own Hannah Cyrus will demonstrate electronic resources provided by the library on Tue, Aug. 6 at 2 p.m., including eBooks, eAudiobooks, language-learning apps, databases, and more, and how you can access them on your own computer or device anywhere, all year round.
Brooklin summer resident and author David Taylor will read from his new book Night Watch on Tue, Aug. 6 at 7 p.m., the third installment in a historical crime fiction series. Co-sponsored with Blue Hill Books.
Members of the Eggemoggin Reach Monthly Meeting of the Society of Friends (Quakers) will do a presentation on Quaker history, beliefs, and manner of worship, on Wed, Aug. 7 at 2 p.m.
Local author of more than 20 cookbooks, including Dishing up Maine, Brooke Dojny will do a program on Maine culinary traditions on Wed, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m., including local clam shacks, restaurants, public suppers, farm stands, and where to buy fresh seafood. Small samples of a Maine specialty will be shared! Co-sponsored with Blue Hill Books.
Shelley Latham, Penny Ricker and Ann Boudreaux will do a joint presentation on the life and legacy of Blue Hill Library founder Adelaide Pearson, Thu, Aug. 8 at 7 p.m.
The library is pleased to announce the opening reception of the August art show, “Vacationland,” on Fri, Aug. 9, 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibition will be available for viewing during the month of August. This highly anticipated event is an August tradition at the library.
