City Announces Cooling Locations During Extreme Weekend Heat

PORTLAND, Maine -- In preparation for the extreme heat forecasted for Saturday, the City would like to make citizens aware of several locations in which they can stay cool. The Portland Public Library’s Main Branch at 5 Monument Square has agreed to serve as the City’s cooling center during their regular business hours (10 AM - 5 PM) on Saturday. Additionally, the City urges people to take advantage of the Deering Oaks Ravine, the Kiwanis Pool, and the several splash pads around the city.

People are urged to limit outdoor activities, drink plenty of water, and wear light colored clothing. We ask that you check on your elderly neighbors to make sure they are okay, and never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

The City does have some air conditioning within the Portland Expo and will be providing a list of places guests can visit to cool off.
