RESCHEDULED GRLT Leads Saltwater Paddle in St. George

Georges River Land Trust will host a guided saltwater paddle around Long Cove and Tommy’s Island in St. George on Thursday, August 1 from 10 am to 1 pm. Admission is free, but space is limited so reservations are required, and participants need to provide their own equipment. This event has been rescheduled from July 10.

We will lead canoeists and kayakers on an exploration of secluded Long Cove, a mile-long tidal inlet. The water here is calm and the shoreline is close enough to offer opportunities for diverse wildlife sightings. It is not uncommon to see eagles, eiders, herons, and sometimes otters! We will circle back around Tommy’s Island, and enjoy our lunch overlooking this 1-acre GRLT preserve.

We will meet on the private property of a GRLT member, and launch our boats in an area with medium sized rocks covered with seaweed, so the footing will be somewhat tricky. Bring your boat, paddles, PFDs, lunch, water, and binoculars.

Please note that due to a narrow, rocky road to the shore, no boat trailers will be allowed. Also, cars should have sufficient clearance for driving over low rocks and roots, such as Subaru Outback or higher. Parking is limited to 12 vehicles, so please carpool.
