Portland, Maine -Denyi Reyes went seven strong innings and the Sea Dogs (7-8) completed a four-game sweep of the Trenton Thunder (7-9) with a 9-2 win in front of a sellout crowd at Hadlock Field.
The four-game sweep at home is the first by the Sea Dogs since July 23-26, 2015 against New Hampshire.
Reyes (W, 3-9) allowed just two runs on six hits with no walks and a strikeout.
Portland got off to a quick start against Garrett Whitlock with two first-inning runs. Luke Tendler doubled to right with two outs to score Jarren Duran, then Bobby Dalbec scored from third on a balk to give the 'Dogs a 2-0 lead.
Bobby Dalbec extended the lead to 4-0 with a two-run, opposite field home run in the third.
Mandy Alvarez hit a two-run homer into the US Cellular Pavilion in right field in the fourth to account for the lone Trenton runs and cut the deficit to 4-2 at the time.
The Sea Dogs responded with a five-run fifth inning off of Whitlock. Portland sent all nine to the plate and took advantage of two Trenton errors. Brett Netzer had an RBI single in the frame and Jeremy Rivera hit a two-run triple to extend the lead to 9-2. All five runs in the inning were unearned.
Durbin Feltman pitched a scoreless eighth and fanned two, Matthew Gorst finished the game with a perfect ninth.
Whitlock (L, 3-3) allowed nine runs (two earned) on eight hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out six.
The Sea Dogs outscored Trenton 24-4 and outhit the Thunder 33-20 in the series.
