Rockland Public Library-- Apollo 11 – 50th Anniversary Celebration Talk on Thursday, July 25

Rockland, Maine - On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong became the first human to walk on the Moon. Most Americans did not support the program; it was very expensive and an 'impossible' feat, well beyond our ability. So how and why did the United States go to the Moon? Join NASA Solar System Ambassador Jon Wallace at the Rockland Public Library on Thursday, July 25 at 6:00 PM to learn more about how and why we got to the Moon, this amazing mission, what we learned, and the people that made it possible.

Jon was an award-winning high school science teacher in Meriden, Connecticut for over 32 years. He is past president of the Connecticut Association of Physics Teachers and was an instructor in Wesleyan University’s Project ASTRO program. He has managed the Naugatuck Valley Community College observatory and run many astronomy classes and training sessions throughout Connecticut. Jon has a BS in Geology from the University of Connecticut; a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a Certificate of Advanced Study (Sixth Year) in Science (Astronomy) from Wesleyan University. He currently lives in Maine and gives free presentations in schools, libraries and other venues in the Freeport area.
