Blue Hill, Maine – Blue Hill Public Library invites the public to the third in a weekly series of four films on contemporary Russia on Monday, August 5th at 6:30 PM. The film will be Maidan, directed by Sergei Loznitsa. The series is hosted by Professor of Russian literature and cinema, Tony Anemone.

Maidan is a documentary about the street protests in Kiev in the winter of 2013 that led to the Ukrainian revolution of 2014 that deposed pro-Russian president Viktor Yanukovych.

This film series - a mix of fiction, literary adaptation, and documentary – is intended to explore contemporary Russia as represented in contemporary movies by four leading filmmakers. Each session will include a brief introduction, and then a discussion afterward.

Tony Anemone, Professor of Russian Literature and Cinema at The New School in New York City since 2006, previously taught at Colby College and The College of William and Mary. He and his wife Vivian Pyle, a potter, summer in Surry. All films are shown free of charge, and everyone is welcome. For more information, call the library at 374-5515.
