BLUE HILL – Writer and editor Martha White will give a presentation on the new collection of her grandfather E.B. White's writings, On Democracy, on Wednesday, July 17 at 7:00 pm at the Blue Hill Public Library. Martha is E.B. White’s granddaughter and editor of the collection.
Anchored by an introduction by Jon Meacham, this concise collection of essays, letters, and poems from one of this country's most eminent literary voices sheds historical context on the state of the nation and offers of hope for the future of our society; for "as long as there is one upright man, as long as there is one compassionate woman... the scene is not desolate."
Martha White lives on the coast of Maine. A longtime contributing editor to Yankee Publishing and The Old Farmer's Almanac, she also compiled two weekly columns for United Feature Syndicate for many years. Her articles, book reviews, short stories, and essays have been published in The New York Times; The Boston Globe; Christian Science Monitor, etc., and numerous other national magazines and small presses.
This event is co-sponsored by the library and Blue Hill Books. Books will be available for sale and signing. For more information, call the library at 374-5515.
