How Sweep it Is! Portland beats Hartford, 7-2 and 1-0
Sea Dogs sweep their third doubleheader of the season
Portland, Maine - The Sea Dogs (16-17) swept Tuesday night's doubleheader over the Hartford Yard Goats (14-18), Portland took game one 7-2 and won game two 1-0.GAME 1 RECAP
The Sea Dogs broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run fifth inning and took game one of the twinbill 7-2.
Portland sent 10 to the plate and notched seven hits in the inning. Bobby Dalbec broke the 2-2 tie with an RBI double off the right field wall, then Joey Curletta followed with a bloop RBI single. Tate Matheny blew it open with a three-run homer off of Jack Wynkoop to put Portland on top 7-2.
Eduard Bazardo (W, 2-1) earned the victory with 1.1 perfect innings of relief. Konner Wade went 4.2 innings in his start and allowed two runs on seven hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Robinson Leyer closed out the ballgame with a hitless ninth.
Jack Wynkoop (L, 6-12) allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits in 4.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Every Sea Dog had at least one hit in the ballgame. Hartford scored their lone runs on an RBI double by Tyler Nevin off of Wade with two outs in the top of the fifth.
GAME 2 RECAP
Denyi Reyes threw six scoreless innings and the Sea Dogs completed the doubleheader sweep with a 1-0 win in game two.
Reyes (W, 6-9) won his fourth straight start and allowed just three singles along with a walk and four strikeouts.
The Sea Dogs scored their lone run when Tate Matheny grounded into a 6-4-3 double play with the bases loaded and nobody out in the fourth inning.
Kevin Lenik (S, 1) earned his first save, he entered the game with a runner on first in the seventh and retired all three hitters he faced to end the ballgame.
Matt Whitehouse (L, 1-2) allowed one run on five hits over four innings with a walk and two strikeouts.
The two teams wrap-up their three-game series on Wednesday afternoon (this afternoon) with a 12:00 PM first pitch. Portland sends RHP Bryan Mata (1-2, 5.03) to the mound against RHP Matt Dennis (1-1, 4.50). Radio coverage on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 11:45 AM.
