Manchester, NH - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats (7-13, 38-49) scored six runs off Bryan Mata and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (9-10, 36-50), 7-2 on Sunday afternoon at Delta Dental Stadium. Portland managed a split of the four-game series.
Fisher Cats RHP Yennsy Diaz (7-6) worked the final six innings to earn the win. Diaz allowed just two hits, no runs, and fanned seven.
New Hampshire scored twice in the first inning against Mata. Nash Knight knocked in the first run with a single and Vinny Capra scored on a wild pitch.
Portland responded with two outs in the second inning on Charlie Madden's RBI single to cut the deficit to 2-1. In the third, the 'Dogs tied the game on Joey Curletta's two-out RBI hit.
The Fisher Cats continue to battle Mata, receiving a homer by Forrest Wall in the third and put a three-spot in the fourth. Mata (L, 1-1) lasted 3.2 innings on seven hits, six runs, three walks, and five strikeouts.
RHP Eduard Bazardo surrendered a homer to Chad Spanberger in the fifth inning to put the 'Cats in front 7-2.
RHP Kevin Lenik closed out the game for Portland with two perfect innings.
The entire Eastern League is off Monday-Wednesday due to the All-Star Break. Portland is back in action on Thursday night, starting a five-game series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies (Mets affiliate) with a doubleheader starting at 5:00 PM.
