Kehrt Earns Team Leading 8th Win of the Season

Portland, Maine - The Portland Sea Dogs (67-71) offense collected 12 hits and scored 13 runs as they defeated the Reading Phillies (74-65) Friday night at Hadlock Field to take game one of the four game series.  The 13 runs was one shy of the teams' season high of 14.

Peter Hissey, Marquez Smith, Xander Bogaerts, and Shannon Wilkerson all had multi hit games while Travis Shaw, Bogaerts, Wilkseron, and Zach Gentile all had multi-RBI games.  Bogaerts was 2-for-4 in the game with a team high three RBI.

The Sea Dogs sent nine men to the plate in the first inning against Brody Colvin to take a 4-1 lead.  The inning was highlighted by a bases loaded double off the bat of Xander Bogaerts.

Tommy Joseph homered for Reading, his third in 25 games, in the second inning to cut the lead to 4-2.  The Phillies tied the game in the third.  With the bases loaded, Jeremy Kehrt hit Darin Ruf forcing home a run and Tyson Gillies scored when Jake Fox grounded into a twin killing.

Shannon Wilkerson broke the 4-4 tie with a RBI double in the bottom half of the third and Zach Gentile chipped in with a two run single as Portland took a 7-4 lead.

Travis Shaw added a two run single in the fourth as Portland took a commanding 9-4 lead.

Jeremy Kehrt (8-3) earned his team leading eighth win firing six innings allowing four runs on six hits.  He walked one and recorded two strikeouts.

Clayton Mortesen made his first appearance with the Sea Dogs since being optioned to Portland by the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.  Mortensen relieved Kehrt in the seventh surrendering two runs on three hits and a walk as Reading pulled within three at 9-6.

The Sea Dogs tacked on four more runs in the eighth inning including a RBI double from Jackie Bradley Jr.

Michael Olmsted tossed a scoreless ninth with three strikeouts keeping his ERA at 0.00 in 13 Double-A games.

The Sea Dogs play their final night game of the season at 6:00 PM on Saturday.  Right-handed pitcher Stolmy Pimentel (5-7, 4.84) will start for the Sea Dogs against the Phillies righty Trevor May (10-12, 4.76).  The action can heard live on 95.5/95.9 FM WPEI.  Red Sox legend Fred Lynn will be appearing at the ballpark.  The first 1,000 fans will also receive a 2012 team baseball card set.  The Sea Dogs season concludes on Monday.  Tickets are available for all remaining games and can be purchased by calling the Sea Dogs Ticket Office at 207-879-9500 or online at www.seadogs.com.
