Bluenose II Launch Events...It's Tomorrow about 8:30 AM


Relaunch Events

In honour of the relaunch of Bluenose II, a day-long celebration will take place on Saturday, September 29 in the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.
Beginning bright and early, the event will feature the official relaunch of the iconic vessel, musical performances and storytelling for all ages, and an evening fireworks display on the Lunenburg waterfront. All events are free and spectators are encouraged to show their pride by turning their noses blue to become "bluenosers" for the day!

Marine Notice
The RCMP and Fire Department will have boats in the water to monitor the harbour and ensure that visiting boats keep a safe distance around the relaunch site.

Bluenose II Relaunch
7 am – 9 am
Depending on the level of the tide, the official moment of the relaunch should take place at approximately 8:10 am.

Family Stage 
11 am – 2 pm
Located at Zwicker Wharf on Bluenose Drive, this fun, family-friendly show will feature popular children’s entertainers, Donna and Andy, Razzmatazz, and Makayla. (Zwicker Wharf is located halfway between the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic and the Dory Shop.)
Also at Zwicker Wharf, families can enjoy complimentary deck tours aboard Theodore Tugboat! Proudly presented by Murphy’s the Cable Wharf and Waterfront Development Corporation,Theodore Too was built in Lunenburg County by some of the same craftsmen who built the famous Bluenose II.

Afternoon Main Stage
1 pm – 4 pm
Located outside the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (68 Bluenose Drive), the afternoon show will feature local entertainers: Drumlin, Glimpses and Collage.

Evening Main Stage
7:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Located outside the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (68 Bluenose Drive), the evening main stage promises to deliver a night of fabulous music and storytelling.
Hosted by Lunenburg’s own Tom Gallant, the show’s headliners include Alan Doyle of Great Big Sea, Lennie Gallant, Laura Smith and Matt Mays. Other performers include John Gracie, Catherine McKinnon, Chad Hatcher, Anne Ludlow, Samantha Gracie and the Bridgewater Fire Department Band. Finally, Michael Stanbury will perform The Bluenose Song; a piece he originally wrote and performed for the vessel’s launch in 1963.

Fireworks Display
9:30 pm 
This will follow the conclusion of the evening concert.

Where can I stay in Lunenburg?
Information about accommodations in Lunenburg, Mahone Bay (15 minutes away by car) and Bridgewater (20 minutes away by car) can be found online at www.novascotia.com.
How close can I get to the relaunch? 
Due to public safety concerns, spectators will be allowed to view the relaunch from behind the fence at the restoration site, located at 23 Burma Road. Once in the water, Bluenose II will be towed to the wharves at the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (68 Bluenose Drive), where spectators can view the vessel.

What items should I bring to make the day more enjoyable? 
For your comfort, spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to the relaunch and the musical performances.
Where can I watch the musical performances?
The parking lots to the east of the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic (68 Bluenose Drive) will serve as public viewing areas. Bluenose Drive will also be closed to allow space for spectators to enjoy the performances.
Can I get on the Bluenose II?
Unfortunately, at this time, the public will not be allowed onboard.
Will the Bluenose II be relaunched with her masts in place?
No, they will be added later. 
Will a bottle of champagne be broken against the hull during the relaunch?
No, the Bluenose II is a relaunch and not an original build, which traditionally sees a bottle of champagne broken on the hull.
Is there a rain date?
The relaunch will proceed rain or shine. However, if a major weather disturbance occurs, a new day, based on the tides, will be announced.
