Skowhegan History House Curator Retiring

Skowhegan, Maine - Lee Granville, longtime Curator of the Skowhegan History House, will be retiring at the end of the season.  The Trustees of Skowhegan History House Museum & Research Center will honor his service with a public Open House Reception on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at the History House, 66 Elm Street from 1:00 – 3:00 PM.

Mr. Granville is well known for his superb memory and understanding of historic events.  Many Skowhegan residents routinely look to him for historical information and consider him to be the town historian.  In fact, he routinely assists historians and researchers around the world via email.

While serving as Curator, Mr. Granville began the process of professionally cataloging the collection, implemented the use of technology for cataloging and bringing history alive, and worked tirelessly to preserve and conserve the collection.  He truly considers each piece his baby and is able to share its provenance without hesitation.  Lee was also instrumental in establishing a program that connected middle school students and staff with the Maine Memory Network, a program which drew national attention. Digital images from the archives of the Skowhegan History House were used in this program for instruction in research and history.

Many of the visitors of History House have enjoyed his expertise, wit, and charm while touring the historic house and museum over the last eleven years.

Although Lee Granville is retiring from his full time Curator position, he will be volunteering as an Associate Curator when his busy schedule allows.
