EIGHT ATHLETES TO REPRESENT THE UNITED STATES AT 2012 JGP TURKEY

The 2012 International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating (JGP) Series continues Sept. 19-23, in Istanbul. Eight athletes will represent the United States in ladies, men's and ice dancing. Icenetwork.com will provide event coverage, including recaps from Istanbul.
LADIES
Leah Keiser makes her JGP debut in Istanbul. The 2010 U.S. novice champion made her international debut last spring, winning gold at the 2012 International Challenge Cup. Nina Jiang returns to the JGP circuit after most recently competing at 2010 JGP France, where she placed fifth. Jiang is the 2008 U.S. intermediate champion.
MEN
Jason Brown, the reigning JGP Final champion and World Junior bronze medalist, looks for his second medal of the season after winning silver at 2012 JGP France to open the year. Shotaro Omori begins his second JGP season. Last year, he competed at events in Romania and Estonia, finishing fourth and fifth, respectively.
ICE DANCING
Kaitlin Hawayek and Jean-Luc Baker make their competitive debut after teaming up in June. Hawayek is the 2011 U.S. novice bronze medalist with former partner Michael Bramante. Baker and former partner Joylyn Yang skated together for six years and were U.S. titlists at the juvenile (2007) and intermediate ('08) levels and competed internationally in 2010. Lorraine McNamara and Quinn Carpenter are the 2012 U.S. junior bronze medalists. They will compete for the second time this season after placing sixth at 2012 JGP France to open the season.
Now in its 16th season, the JGP Series consists of seven international events in a cumulative point-scoring format. Each athlete is eligible to score points in two of the seven scheduled events (pairs can compete in two of four designated events). The top six point-earners in each discipline qualify for the Junior Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final, Dec. 6-9 in Sochi, Russia, home of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
In addition to the event in Austria, the Junior Grand Prix Series consists of the remaining events:
  • JGP Slovenia: Bled, Slovenia - Sept. 26-30
  • JGP Croatia: Zagreb, Croatia - Oct. 3-7 (includes pairs)
  • JGP Germany: Chemnitz, Germany - Oct. 10-14 (includes pairs)
  • JGP Final: Sochi, Russia - Dec. 6-9 (includes pairs)
